This popular park was once the site of a huge fort built by Felipe V which later became a political prison. It was demolished in the late 19th Century and the site became a park. The Universal Exhibition was held here in 1888. In the 70 acre park are orange groves, a lake and a cascade with a truimphant arch that was designed by Josep Fontsere with young student Gaudi. Some of the exhibition buildings remain standing, and the park also contains museums and a zoo.
