Colourful, unique Parc Guell is one of Antoni Gaudi`s creations. He was commissioned in the 1890s by Count Eusebi Guell to design a garden city on this hillside. It proved uneconomic and the project was abandoned in 1914. The city took over the estate in 1922, and opened it as a public park. From the main entrance, with its mosaic pavilion, a grand stairway leads to what was intended to be the market place, from which steps go up to a balcony with curving multicoloured benches and panoramic views.
