Aguilar de la Frontera is located on top of a hill and from the remains of its old castle are superb views. The castle was originally built in the 9th Century but rebuilt in the 14th Century. Outside the walls stands the Church of Santa Maria del Soterrano which was first built during the medieval period. It was rebuilt as a Gothic and Mudejar building in 1530 and inside are two Baroque chapels.
