Placa de la Vila lies at the heart of the medieval hilltop town of Begur. Here stands the parish church and on one side are several bars. On Wednesdays a market is held in the square and traditional dances often take place on summer evenings. Radiating from the square are many narrow streets from where you can climb to the ruined castle. During the 1950s, some scenes of the film Suddenly Last Summer, starring Elizabeth Taylor, were made here.
