The medieval square of Placa Major is where the traditional town market takes place every Wednesday morning in Banyoles. It has been held here since the 13th Century. In the centre of the square are plane trees and around it are forty arches. These are overlooked by three storied buildings with balconies. On a corner is an 18th Century lamp. Festivals and concerts take place in the square.
