Plaza Alta is a picturesque square with palm trees and a tiled fountain. It was first laid out in the 18th Century, athough most of the plaza dates from the early 20th Century. On the western side stands the Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Senora de la Palma which dates from the 18th Century and it is dedicated to the patron saint of Algeciras. On the other side of the square is the Capilla de Nuestra Senora de Europa, built in the Baroque style.
