Aguilar de la Frontera is an attractive village with narrow streets and fine buildings with iron balconies. The Plaza San Jose is an unsual, octagonal shaped square which was built in 1806 by the Salamanca architect Vicente Gutierrez. Nearby is the 17th Century Baroque Torre Civil de Reloj, the Clock Tower. The Las Descalzas Convent was founded in 1671 and is in the Baroque style.
