Built on the sides of a valley, Betancuria is said to be the prettiest village on the Island of Fuerteventura. It was the island`s capital until 1824. In the square is the Iglesia Santa Maria and opposite is the Casa Santa Maria with its carved wooden ceilings and courtyards. It is now a restaurant. Nearby is the narrow Calle Jean de Bethencourt lined with picturesque small cottages.
