For the 1992 Olympics the old industrial waterfront in Barcelona was demolished and a promenade, new apartments and parks were built. The buildings are still known as Olympia as they housed the athletes. Two buildings with over forty floors stand near the port. There are many restaurants around the marina and pleasant walks can be taken along the palm fringed promenade behind the sandy beaches, which offer safe swimming.
