The Punic Rampart was constructed in 227 BC when the Punic city was founded and Cartagena became the Carthagenian capital in Hispania. The rampart is on the south side of the hill known as Monte Jose and there are two parallel walls, about six metres apart, which are also joined by other walls. This section of rampart was the entrance to the city. It was not discovered until 1989.
