The Royal Convent of Las Huelgas was built in the 12th Century as a future mausoleum for Alfonso V111 and his wife Eleanor, daughter of Henry 11 of England. It became one of the most powerful convents in Spain. The church contains tombs of numerous monarchs, and other highlights include the cloister and the Capilla de Santiago with its Mudejar ceiling. In the small textile museum are clothes found in the royal tombs.
