The Royal Jail was built in 1797 by the architect Torcuato Benjumeda. The facade has a triumphal arch type of entrance bearing the coats of arms of the Spanish monarchy. It is one of the most important Baroque civil buildings in this part of Spain. The city`s law courts have been housed here since 1990. Nearby is the 17th Century Church of Santa Maria with its belfry and spire, decorated with azulejos.
