San Roque Hermitage is in the atmospheric, old quarter of Alicante which is located on the lower slopes of Mount Benacantil. This part of Alicante is known as Santa Cruz and it has been occupied since Roman times. The hermitage dates from 1559 and was rebuilt in the late 19th Century. Inside is a poignant Gipsy Christ, much venerated by the inhabitants of Santa Cruz.
