The Santuario de Torreciudad is situated on a rocky promontory overlooking the waters of the Embalse de El Grado. It replaces an earlier church and was built by the founder of Opus Dei, Jose Maria Escriva de Balaguer. He was born in Barbastro and died in 1975 before the new church was opened. In this stark red brick building is an ornate altarpiece with a Romanesque statue of the Virgin.
