Cercedilla is a small town situated at over 3000 feet above sea level in the mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama. It is a fine base for walking in the summer months, especially in the Valle de Fuenfria where there are picnic areas and waymarked routes through the forest. One walk includes a stretch of Roman road. There are also longer walks taking several days and routes suitable for mountain bikes.
