The Aljibes de Jayron are cisterns from Moorish times. Almeria was established in the mid 10th Century when the Alcazaba was built. The city was not finally surrendered to the Christians until 1490. The cisterns once supplied the whole city with water fed by a channel leading from a spring four miles away. They have been restored with marble floors and art exhibitions are often held here.
