The graceful Zubizuri Footbridge spanning the Rio Nervion was designed by Santiago Calatrava. This modern structure was opened in 1994 before the completion of the Guggenheim Museum. It is sparkling white and the walkway is made of glass which, however, has a covering so you cannot look down at the water below your feet as you cross. The bridge connects the old and the new town.
