Enchanting Alhambra was built in the 13th and 14th centuries under caliphs when the Nasrid dynasty ruled Granada. Napoleon used the palace fortress as a barracks and attempted to blow it up. This fairy tale place has more recently undergone restoration, is now hugely popular, and reservations to visit are essential. The many highlights include the Casa Real with its throne room, great halls and patios, the Alcazaba and the palace of Carlos V, with its museums of Spanish and Islamic art.
