Atienza is an attractive, walled village situated high above a valley. On top of the hill stands the ruins of a 12th Century castle that has a turret attached to a rock. The village has an arcaded square with a gateway and Romanesque churches. There is a religious art museum in the Iglesia de San Gil whilst the Iglesia de Santa Maria has a fine Baroque altarpiece.
