The Basilica of San Juan de Dios dates from the 18th Century, and is the final resting place of San Juan de Dios who founded the Order of Knights Hospitallers. He died in Granada in 1550. The baroque church has a magnificent carved door and two belltowers linked with images of saints. Inside is a fine altarpiece, sculptures annd frescoes by Diego Sanchez Sarabia. The church is one of the most important in Granada and was given the status of basilica in 1916.
