The oldest building in the town of Sant Francesc is the Capilla de sa Tanca Vell. It is a small 14th Century chapel built of sandstone blocks, and it has a barrel vaulted roof but no windows. After the island was resetttled in 1697 this tiny chapel was used for Mass and as a place of refuge from pirates until the larger church was built.
