Casa Colon is a grand building that was built in the late 19th Century to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America. The hotel was not successful and it was sold to the Rio Tinto Company. The company used the elegant building to house managerial staff and also as offices and a social club. It is arranged around a central courtyard with palm trees and a fountain. Casa Colon is now an exhibition and conference centre.
