Built in the Renaissance style, this fortress like Mudejar palace was built in the 1500s and belonged to the family who were given Generalife after the fall of Granada. Boabdil, the last Moorish ruler, surrendered the city in 1492 and his sword became one of the family`s possessions. It is depicted on the facade of the building with the statues of Hercules, Theseus, Mercury, Jason and Hector. The muskets in the battlements of the palace are the origin of its name.
