The Cuevas de Santimamine were inhabited by man about 12,000 years ago. They were discovered in 1917 and on the walls of one small chamber are paintings of bison and other animals made by the prehistoric cave dwellers. This chamber is now closed to the public to protect the paintings from further deterioration, but the cave complex is still worth visiting for its beautiful, oddly shaped rock formations. Visits are by guided tour.
