The Church of San Miguel Arcangel in Tuineje is known for its paintngs of the Battle of Tamacita. The battle took place in 1740 when fifty English pirates with guns landed from their ships and were met by local farmers armed with only five pistols and farm implements. The farmers killed thirty of the pirates and captured their cannon. The church was built in the late 18th century and has a baroque high altar.
