The fortified Church of Sant Francesc dates from the 1720s and cannons used to be mounted on its flat roof to defend the town from pirates. The island was resettled in 1697 after being abandoned for 200 years, and the inhabitants took refuge in the church during the frequent pirate raids. Inside, the church has a barrel vaulted roof, side chapels and a gold plated altar. There is a large, decorated alabaster font.
