Estartit is a small resort which was once a fishing village. It is popular with families and its main sandy beach is about two miles long. There are lifeguards and sun beds and sun shades can be hired and there are showers. Facilities for water sports include scuba diving, sailing and windsurfing. About a mile off land are the Medes Islands, a nature reserve consisting of seven islands. A popular excursion is to take a trip on a glass bottomed boat around the islands to see the many species of marine life.
