The Fort of El Toston stands above the picturesque harbour near the centre of the small fishing town of El Cotillo. The fort was built in the 18th Century as part of the defences to protect Fuerteventura Island from pirate raids. The tower has no door at ground level and its entrance is approached by steps. The historic building has now been restored and it is a tourist information point with a gallery.
