The Portal de ses Taules is an impressive gateway in the Renaissance city walls. The defences were completed in 1585 and are over one mile long and 80 feet high. The approach to the gate was guarded by a ramp, drawbridge and moat. Above the gate is a tablet with the coat of arms of Felipe 11 and a Latin inscription. Beside it are marble statues. The walls have UNESCO World Heritage status.
