The Alcazaba in Guadix was built by the Moors in the 10th Century on Roman foundations. The Islamic palace had a military garrison guarding its ramparts and towers. An extended system of walls enclosed all of the medina. Nowadays, visitors can enjoy spectacular views from the turrets of the cave quarter of Guadix. Stretches of old wall can be seen in other parts of the town.
