The Iglesia de la Concepcion is the only historic builing in Valverde, the capital of El Hierro Island. This small town stands on an inland hillside almost 2000 feet above sea level, and on the site of a former Bimbache settlement. The church was built in the mid 16th Century and it has a fine Baroque altar. In the belfry is a 19th Century clock made in Paris. Opposite the church is the early 20th Century Town Hall.
