The Jovellanos` Birthplace Museum houses an art collection as well as rooms dedicated to commemorating the life and works of Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos. This eminent author was born at the mansion in 1744, and it is one of the oldest houses in the city. In 1971, after being renovated, the building became a museum. The art collection consists mainly of paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, and includes works by Asturian artists. Paintings by European artists from the 17th and 18th centuries are also on display.
