Lanjaron has the remains of a Moorish fort which stands above a ravine. It is said that when this Almoravid castle was taken by the Christians, some of the Moors threw themselve into the ravine. At that time, the fort was the main military stronghold in the Alpujarra mountains. Lanjaron is a good starting place for both easy walks and more serious ascents of mountain peaks.
