The Mediterranean Tortoise Centre protects tortoises in their natural environment in the Serra de l`Albera mountains. Around two hundred tortoises are born in the centre each year and they are fitted with transmitters when released so that they can be monitored. They are frequently endangered by forest fires. At the centre you can see the various ecosystems. It is usually possible to see tiny, young tortoises and other endangered species such as turles.
