The Monestir de Santa Maria was founded in the 9th Century by Guifre El Pelos (Wilfred the Hairy). On the great west portal are intricate 12th Century Romanesque carvings of historical and biblical scenes. The monks left in the 19th Century and the basilica has been damaged by fire but restoration has taken place. The tomb of Gifre El Pelos is inside. The basilica and the portal can be visited and there is a beautiful cloister with Romanesque capitals.
