The Prehistory Museum in Orce houses a replica of a bone fragment said to be over one million years old which was found nearby in 1982. It was claimed to be part of a hominid. The claim is now disputed but the museum does contain the fossilised bones of many animals such as mammoth, giant hyena, sabre-tooth tiger, wolf and elephant that were found at the archaeological site of Venta Micena and other sites nearby.
