The Painted Cave was excavated out of volcanic rock, then painted with red and white geometric patterns by people who lived on the island in the pre-Hispanic era. The cave`s purpose is unknown and it is part of a complex of six caves. Much conservation work has taken place at this archaeological site and there is a lot to see. The visit includes the pre-Hispanic town of Agaldar. At the museum there is an audio-visual show.
