Begun in the early 16th Century, this huge, square Renaissance building appears incongruous in its setting at Alhambra, but it houses two interesting museums. The Museo de la Alhambra is dedicated to the Islamic period and contains a splendid collection of artefacts from Alhambra and other areas. Do not miss the vase from Alhambra that is decorated with gazelles. The Museo de Belles Artes has a collection of paintings and sculptures including works by Diego de Siloe and Alonso Cano.
