The Placa d`Espanya is dominated by the Town Hall which occupies a 17th Century building erected as a Dominican monastery. Nearby is the Church of Santo Domingo with its red tiled cupola. Inside, beautiful frescos decorate the vaulted ceilings and on the walls and floors are ceramic tiles. In the square is a statue of Guillem de Montgri who conquered the island in the early 13th Century.
