The Santuario de Nuestra Senora de los Reyes is the sanctuary of the patron saint of El Hierro Island. The hermitage is in the western part of the island. Inside is a statue of Madonna. Every four years the statue is carried on a silver litter in a ceremonial procession though the length of the island to Valverde. According to legend, the statue was given to the island in the 16th Century in thanks for hospitality to the crew of a becalmed French ship.
