Sohail Castle dates from the 11th Century when it was built by the Moors. It was taken by the Christians in 1485 and rebuilt some time later as a defence from pirate attacks. French troops occupied the castle for a while during the War of Independence in the 19th Century. After being neglected for a long time, the castle has been restored and during July and August it is a venue for open air concerts and other events. Around it are attractive gardens.
