Trevelez is the highest village in the Alpujarra and because of its clean mountain air it has become known for its air cured hams. This is a good base for walks into the high mountains and the ascent of Mulhacen. The village has three parts, the bajo, medio and alto but the main part for tourists is the lower part where there are many ham and souvenir shops. There are also restaurants and bars.
