The former Augustinian monastery of Canonica de Santa Maria Vilabertran is in the village of Vilabertran, near Figueres. Here is a beautiful Romanesque church with a magnificent tower and three aisles. Elisenda de Montcada married King Jaume 11 of Aragon here in 1322. Still standing is a 12th Century cloister with lovely carvings on its capitals. A classical music festival is held here in late August and early September.
