Banos de la Encina is a beautiful village standing above fields of olive trees. It is dominated by a massive 16th Century Moorish castle with fourteen towers and high walls. There is a massive central keep. The castle was built to control the Despenaperros Pass which was the main route linking Andalucia with the northern parts of Spain. The village also has a fine Gothic church with an impressive tower.
