The Casa de Colon was one of the first buildings to be erected when the city of Las Palmas was founded by Juan Rejon in 1478. It was built for the governor of Gran Canaria and Christopher Columbus lodged here in 1492. It is now a museum and there are permanent exhibitions devoted to the voyages of Columbus and the New World. Displays include copies of log extracts, nautical maps, navigational instruments and models of ships.
