The Castle of St Joan stands at the top of a hill separating the beaches of Lloret De Mar and Fenals. The castle dates back to the 11th Century. It was damaged in the 14th Century but it was still in use as a watchtower in the 17th Century. A British warship attacked the castle with cannon in 1805, damaging the tower. It was restored in the 20th Century and is now a heritage centre and is open to visitors.
