The Hijuela del Botanico in La Orotava was established in 1923 from cuttings and shoots obtained from the famous Botanic Garden in Puerto de la Cruz. This is how it obtained the name Hijuela del Botanica which means Daughter of the Botanic Garden. Located near the Plaza del General Franco and the Town Hall, this compact garden displays over 3,000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants.
