Dating from medieval times, the El Moral Castle was originally a square fortress with a tower on each corner. It was later enlarged by the addition of a keep. The last Moorish King of Granada, Boabdil el Chico, was kept prisoner here. The castle, after conversion, became a palace residence for the Lucena family. Nowadays, the building houses the tourist information centre, exhibitions and an archaeology museum.
