The Fundacion Cesar Manrique has been built on volcanic bubbles that were formed during the eruptions of the 18th Century. Cesar Manrique was an original artist who, after spending time in mainland Spain and America, returned to Lanzarote and carried out much environmentally friendly work for tourist sites in the Canary Islands. Since Manrique died, the house has been an art gallery containing some of Manrique`s art collection, including work of other artists. At the house, steps descend into the volcanic bubbles where each is a room with a distinctive character.
