The Hermitage of the Sorrows was built to house the Virgin of the Volcanoes, the patron saint of Lanzarote, after the village escaped destruction during the volcanic eruption of 1824. Local people prayed to Our Lady and the lava stopped flowing at the entrance to the village. A cross marks the spot. This lovely church has a cupola. Pilgrimages are made to the church on the 15 September.
